Why Obama Doesn’t Need MySpace

Who has more MySpace friends in the Democratic presidential nomination fight?

a) Sen. Barack Obama, age 46

b) Sen. Hillary Clinton, age 60

Answer: The older candidate by more than 2:1

Surprised? One of the two will be forced to unwind their campaign soon, which means boxing up the puzzle pieces that make up a national political campaign.

Here are some social networking observations tonight worth pondering before the November general election:

Facebook Friends

  • Obama: 818,670
  • Clinton: 155,316
MySpace Friends

  • Clinton: 49,853
  • Obama: 21,754
Obama’s MySpace page has not been updated since Dec. 4, 2007. Clinton’s was updated today (May 8, 2008). While Clinton pitches a user-content generated T-Shirt design contest on her campaign’s Facebook page, Obama sends a simple branded message: “Our Moment is Now.” A bit of chaos vs. steady, consistent image. Staying on message can help get you through the deepest valleys. One Response to Why Obama Doesn’t Need MySpace

  1. I love her new technique, the “T-Shirt Contest.”

But why make a new one? There’s already great stuff like this one out there.

It really sums up her message and this race!
