Learning by Doing: Makes Good Sense

At first glance, this post on the Google blog would appear to be high-brow coming from a writer whose title is Chief Economist. But its premise is simple: Google does well because it has been “learning by doing” the past decade.

Makes good sense.

So does the timing of the post and its 7 generic references to ”competition” or alternative search engines. That’s no accident as No. 2 search engine Yahoo! is courted by immense Microsoft.

Learning by doing can apply to PR just as learning by doing applies to search engine algorithms. Not scientifically, mind you. The equations are different. The goal, though, is the same: results.

So go ahead, put something strategic out there see how it works. Keep refining, keep making better recipes, keep perfecting. Have your chief economist (if you’re lucky enough to have one) write a blog post about why you’re better than the competition. Always think of different ways to tell your story.

  • At AltSearchEngines.com, the ReadWriteWeb network blog devoted entirely to alternative search engines, we spend our days and some of our nights preparing for the eventual shift away from the major search engines and towards the “alternatives.”

I invite you and your readers to stop by and take a scroll through our little blog. There are literally hundreds of fascinating search engines that we would love to show you!
