The Federal Communications Commission should have a few extra coins in its pocket soon. Bids totaling nearly $19 billion have been received for blocks of wireless licensed spectrum, including $4.71 billion for the “C” block. Verizon and Google are thought to be vying for this slice of airwaves, which will be open to any device device or software application. Instead of calling it C, the FCC should simply call it Open.
Developers for the Google’s Android platform now have until mid-April to submit their open source applications. Google is awarding $10 million to the best ones.
